HIPERS a Sub Committee of the Houghton HUB in 2024, are a community of volunteers that formed following the Red Cross REDI-Communities information meetings in 2022. HIPERS - Redi Communities supports the areas of Houghton, Hermitage, Inglewood, and Paracombe, a community of approximately 1300 people.
HIPERS values are as follows:
HIPERS a volunteer group supports the Houghton HUB Objects of the Association dot points vii and ix.
vii. To assist in the establishment, resourcing, operation and development of the community.
ix. To initiate and develop policies and strategies that will strengthen and support the community.
HIPERS saw the need to work together to strengthen local resilience and provide practical post-disaster support up to 72 hours for our community.
What We Do * Support our community in times of emergency or natural disaster.
* Share skills, knowledge, and resources across our community.
* Build stronger connections between residents of Houghton, Hermitage, Inglewood & Paracombe.
* Develop local centre of support to help fill the gap in the critical first 72 hours after a disaster before formal services arrive
By working together, HIPERS can:
* Provide critical and essential support for families and community impacted by disaster.
* Be better prepared for fire, storms, power outages, and other challenges that may arise.
* Recover stronger and faster, together.
HIPERS has already delivered on two projects in funding and outfitting its Emergency Response Trailer, from sponsors and community donations.
