Hisses to Purrs is a 100% volunteer-run cat rescue caring for unowned cats across Adelaide's southern suburbs. We're a small team, fewer than five volunteers, with no shelter and no government funding behind us. Everything we do relies on the support of people like you.
Since we started in 2021, we've rehomed over 700 cats and kittens from the streets. Lately though, we've noticed a rise in dumped and abandoned kittens in our area. We believe it's tied to the cost of living crisis, with families unable to afford desexing for their own pets, and local shelters so stretched they're turning surrenders away. We cover some of the more disadvantaged suburbs in the southern area, and it's often the people doing it toughest who are hit hardest when a cat falls pregnant unexpectedly.
Our lottery goal is $5,000, and every dollar has a job to do:
•$2,000 will fund a small last litter program, helping low income families in our area desex their female cats before another litter hits the streets
•$3,000 will cover the desexing, vaccinating and microchipping of 15 street kittens, getting them ready for loving homes
Hit $5,000 and we can do both.
We know we're up against some bigger organisations in this lottery. We don't have paid staff or a shelter to our name, just a handful of volunteers and a community that's shown up for us again and again. We're often the ones who pick up the phone when other rescues are already full. If you can grab a ticket, you're helping us stop the cycle before it starts.
