The Program has been in operation for over 30 years, offers a variety of activities, groups and supports to seniors living in the Ipswich region at risk of social isolation. It is welcoming to many seniors including those over 50 years of age (45 years for first nations people) Social Isolation within this group has been shown to impact heavily on their physical and mental health. It is proven that when this is remedied through a variety of strategies, significant improvement in the individual's health outcomes occurs.
The Program is a small Community based not for profit organisation. It receive a small amount of funding from the Qld government to contribute to the running of the Program. All of our groups are facilitated by volunteers, without their dedication and support the Organisation would not be able to offer the variety of activities that it does.
There is a need for resources that can support volunteers (also Seniors) which includes but is not limited to fuel expenses. The provision of equipment ( i.e sewing machines for the upcycle refashion group and others to use) The replacement of furniture that has stood the test of time and needs replacing, as the chairs are too heavy for many to lift, The Management Committee (all volunteers) would also benefit from all of the above-mentioned items. Including the challenge of being up to date with technology and the provision of training to enable this to occur, this training to be available to all our volunteers, which would also have the benefit personal skills could then enable access to telehealth appointments where needed, opening the door to a range of communications that could expand there access to other programs and services.
